Diving In

So, I've been getting "messages" about reading another book or two before I get started examining the runes. I'm still going to do that. I know I need more information, particular in regards to how the runes interact with each other. That information will be most helpful when doing divination.

I'm going to take one rune a week.  Some runes may take two weeks, but the goal will be a week for each.   I'll check the available sources on how to interpret them and then add my own layers and insight into what they might each mean spiritually.  I really want to delve into the universal, spiritual evolution, aspect of the runes teachings.

I'm also balancing how I want to progress. I'll give myself a few days to figure it out. It makes sense to take them in order and discuss the airts as they fall in the grid.  But I also really like the idea of choosing a rune randomly.  It won't follow the grid and it will be harder to figure out and focus on alignments and associations.  It will be more work to go through the alphabet randomly as I pull them.  I haven't decided if I want to take the easy path or the random, complicated path.

Knowing me, I'll probably decide on the more challenging avenue.  I'm a bit of a hard-ass.

So here's a guideline of aspects I want to address with each rune:

1.  The literal translation and rune forms

2. The Runic Names

3. The divination meanings. This is where I will look at the Anglo-Saxon, Younger, and Elder Futhark systems for shared meanings or deeper layers.  I'd like to pull in translations of the rune poems as well.  Thorsson has already done this in his books.  I may just reference the book and the page number, rather than re-typing them out.

4. Mythological connections to deity or events in the myths

5. Elemental connections and how this might deepen or influence the understanding of the runes.
For example: Isa and Ice.  How the element in nature and chemistry could unpack hidden meaning of the rune itself.  This may also include touching on the airts and sympathy/antipathy connections.

6.  Universal meaning.  How the rune connects to universal concepts and spiritual evolution. What this rune means for the soul's quest.

7. Bindrunes, or runes hidden inside of the rune symbol. How those inner runes interact with each other in order to subtly influence the function or meaning of the rune.  I've already done this with Othala. I want to continue with all the runes.

8.  Significance of missing runes in #7.  This evolved from a recent discussion I had.  Isa and Laguz are runes that are found in many other forms.  The absence can influence the function, elemental, or subtle meanings.

9. Magickal uses

I will do the best I can to stick to these 9 aspects of the runes.  I am going to delve deeper into other aspects as well, but some of these understandings may take the form of a book review.  Thorsson and Von List have been a heavy part of my reading list. And sometimes it is just easier to let the authors have their say rather than trying to restate it on my own.

I'm going to bite the bullet and get started next week.  We'll see what shakes out of the tree.
